Everyone’s heard of, read of, and probably talks about Global Warming, climatic changes and the rising temperatures. It’s very rare that one comes across people who take considerable efforts to practice the solutions. This is a global issue whose solutions lie within every individual.

We know what we need to do, but are we ready to practice them to make our world a cleaner-greener place.

Ask yourself the following questions and ponder over the solutions. Are these solutions inflicting more harm to the environment or are they doing a lot good to the world and to us!

  • You own a car and you love driving it daily to your workplace. One fine day, you are made aware of the amount of pollution your car causes; will you restrict yourself from using your car and instead look for alternate means of transport (car pooling, Bus, Train/Tram)?
  • Do you know that a mug of water is enough for a shave, two buckets enough for a car wash and one bucket of water enough for a bath? Now that you do, will you change your habits even if you aren’t charged for the water you consume?
  • Look around you and list the number of things which aren’t ‘plastic’? I bet you can count them on your finger tips. Is that good news? Each time we buy a commodity, we ask the vendor for a bag. As soon as we reach home, we segregate the bought items and throw the plastic bags in the bin. These bags like other plastic products are non-biodegradable. You can recycle it, burn it or throw it as refuse.
Recycling is good, burning is bad and littering can trigger floods! That’s what happened in Mumbai on the 26th of July, 2005. PET bottles (Coke, Mineral Water), plastic bags clogged the drains of Mumbai preventing rain water to drain out into the sea. This triggered floods which led to massive destruction of life and property.
  • So, why is it that you still continue to use plastic bags in spite of knowing the consequences of using them?

We have the solutions but what is keeping us from practicing them? Comfort, luxury, status, dependency…..?

It’s harming you, it’s harming us and it continues to harm the world we call ‘Home’.

  • With every degree you drop your room temperature, you save up to 6% of energy consumption for heating.
  • Livestock farming is responsible for about 18% of the total greenhouse gas emissions.
