Guru Nanak Jayanti

Nov 15, 2005 Author: Vaibhav Dugar | Filed under: Quotes

When I am quiet, they say I have no knowledge;

When I speak, I talk too much they say.

When I sit, they say an unwelcome guest has come to stay;

When I depart, I have deserted my family and run away.

When I bow, they say it of fear that I pray.

Nothing can I do that in peace I may spend my time.

Preserve Thy servant’s honour now and

Hereafter, O Lord sublime.

Great Expectations

Nov 7, 2005 Author: Vaibhav Dugar | Filed under: OBservations

There are times when u want 2 break away 4m da hypothetical cocoon or the shell
that one creates around himself. One’s gets tired following da same ideologies n
principles. It’s too stereotyped at times, thats when one surprises himself n
temporarily breaks away from da shell.

Thats what I do. It brings a smile on my face as I accomplish da challenges
which I set by defying myself.

Here are a few examples:
Greeting my watchman and askin him how he’s doing,

cracking a joke 2 da person who’s sitting next 2 me in da bus and yes he’s a
stranger.
But later we got talking, because i had already broken the ice. And in the end
we exchanged visiting cards.

Wishing every person I came across a very Happy Diwali.

These are a few, but it made a difference to me. More confident now, and yeah,
I know quite a few people who were strangers to me before.

The last year I also went out of my way 2 wish people on their birthdays.
Also made it very special 4 few. But a time comes when u want them 2 remember
your birthday too, and if possible make it a little special by coming with a cake or wishing at sharp midnight. Or messaging the entire day 2 wish him a great
year ahead.
Well thats what I have done 4 da people I love n care due 2 which I did have my
share of expectations on my birthday i.e the 2nd of nov. Unfortunely it wasn’t
fulfilled when some very close people didnt think it 2 be necessary 2 remember
me then.

Finally, I realised that, never expect. Do your good and be satisfied.
Thats my resolution for the year ahead, and it’s gonna be another great year.

Learn simple things in life

Received this Amazing eMail the other day.
Cant say about the authenticity.

Check it out:

Difference between Focusing on Problems and Focusing on Solutions

Case 1

When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out
that the pens wouldn’t work at zero gravity (ink won’t flow down to
the writing surface). To solve this problem, it took them one decade
and $12 million. They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity,
upside down, underwater, in practically any surface including rystal
and in a temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degrees
C.
And what did the Russians do…?? They used a pencil.

Case 2

One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management was
the case of the empty soap box, which happened in one of Japan’s
biggest
cosmetics companies. The company received a complaint that a
consumer had bought a soap box that was empty. Immediately the
authorities isolated the problem to the assembly line, which
transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery
department. For some reason, one soap box went through the assembly
line empty. Management asked its engineers to solve the problem.
Post-haste, the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine
with high-resolution monitors manned by two people to watch all the
soap
boxes that passed through the line to make sure they were not empty.
No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast but they spent a
whoopee amount to do so.
But when a rank-and-file employee in a small company was posed with
the same problem, he did not get into complications of X-rays, etc.,
but instead came out with another solution. He bought a strong
industrial electric fan and pointed it at the assembly line. He
switched the fan on, and as each soap box passed the fan, it simply
blew the empty boxes out of the line.

Moral

Always look for simple solutions. Devise the simplest possible
solution that solves the problem

The Indian Air Scenario

Nov 6, 2005 Author: Vaibhav Dugar | Filed under: OBservations

President A P J Abdul Kalam, concluded the fifth J R D Tata Memorial Lecture at
the National Institute of Advanced Studies ( NIAS ) in Banglore on
“Aerospace Technologies: Past, Present and Future,” by quoting
When our 150-seater aircraft flies in our sky, JRD will smile,” which
drew a thundering applause from the audience, which heard his 30-minute lecture
in rapt attention.

This is with reference to the Indians building an indigenously developed 150
seater aircraft on view of the rising demand for such aircrafts in the overseas
market.

The Past year has seen three new entrants in the domestic air market.
Just today, I read about another one, Go Air. Another low cost airline!
The other low cost airlines in the country are Deccan Air, Spice Air and
Kingfisher Airlines.

Kerala Air is expected to launch in the near future.

With a spate of low budget airlines coming into the market, travelling has
no doubt become less strainous and quick but are the airports in the country
well equipped to meet such heavy air traffic.
This does point a finger to the infrastructure of the airports.
Other than the International Airports in the country the remaining are in a
pitiable state.

The government has to wake up before its too late, as seen in the past,
it takes a tragedy to shake the government from their slumber sleep but by
then its too late.. precious lives are lost .. property worth millions damaged.

    Mumbai Diary

Nov 4, 2005 Author: Vaibhav Dugar | Filed under: OBservations

On my way to Mumbai, witnessed certain events which made me ponder but i still haven’t been able to understand them.

A couple sitting next to me werr enjoyin each others company but the very next moment they had tears in their eyes. He tried to console her, but it had an adverse effect; only adding to the misery and irritation the lady was going through.
Couldnt come to any conclusion as my stop had arrived by then. On my way out, I glanced at them and silently laughed, is this what love is all about?

Noticed a family of 5 next to the station. They lived in a shed, synonymous to a typical home seen in a slum. Their clothes were torn and battered, and the only furnishing was an old scooter seat. The kids played ‘crossing da road’, and their mother watched them while the father stared at anythin that passed by.
But amongst them was a stray dog, which loved jumping in and out of the small shed. Later it joined in the game the kids were playin.
There’s so much one can learn from a dog. It lives in the present and makes the most out of it.

Will greet u in its ‘dog ways’ whether you are the richest man in the world or a poverty stricken human being.
It’ll lick your hand even if the world has abandoned you.
It’ll wag its tail, stick its tongue out and give a soft bark whenever it sees you even if it hasnt been fed for the past two days.
There’s so much to learn from a dog.

    Quotes on dogs:

If I have any beliefs about immortality, it is that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven, and very, very few persons.
    - James Thurber

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.
    - Ben Williams

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.
    - Josh Billings

The average dog is a nicer person than the average person.
    - Andy Rooney

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It’s the best deal man has ever made.
    - M Acklam

The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue.
    - Anonymous

Dogs love their friends and bite their enemies, quite unlike people, who are incapable of pure love and always have to mix love and hate.
    - Sigmund Freud
